Spring Berry Fizz

Makes 1 drink
The first couple of times I made this cocktail, I strained the berry mixture to get rid of the skins and seeds. But then I remembered that in quarantine, I am the master of my own destiny. So now, I just leave everything in the shaker and spend the extra time watching Bon Appetit Test Kitchen videos. I encourage you to follow your own heart re: straining. Also I understand if you are skeptical of the egg whites, but they don’t taste slimy. They just make the drink nice and frothy.
Ingredients
- About 1/4 cup berries, fresh or frozen and thawed (I’ve been using a frozen berry mix from Aldi.)
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
- 2 ounces gin or vodka
- 2 teaspoons (or so) egg white
Instructions
- Muddle the berries and the sugar in the bottom of a cocktail shaker. (If you don’t have one, I suspect a mason jar would work too.)
- Add the lime, gin or vodka and egg white. Don’t add the ice yet though, or it won’t froth properly.
- Secure the lid and shake vigorously for at least 30 seconds.
- Pour into a glass, over ice. Make your friends pretend to be impressed and enjoy.
Variation: Recipe tester Becca vouches for a rhubarb version of this drink. Instead of the berries, she used thawed frozen rhubarb and added a little more sugar to taste. Then, she gilded the lily with a sugar rim and a sprig of rosemary and told me she regretted nothing.
I like the Spring-Berry Fizz. I just saw a recipe earlier for a similar drink called a ‘Quarantini’. It was only a matter of time before somebody did it…

Lewis and I love to play Office Party! I play the role of the older coworker who wants to share details about my medical conditions and ask invasive personal questions. Lewis plays the role of me, just wanting to eat snacks in peace. (I do have genuine affection for my coworkers, and hopefully the same is true of Lewis.)
